CHALLENGE

The manufacturer relied on serialized finished goods and made-to-order production, making accurate labels essential at every stage of inventory operations. Even minor label changes required a support ticket to an offshore help desk, turning work that should have taken hours into weeks and putting the burden on the internal team.

RESULTS

RF-SMART delivered onsite support, a custom label-management solution, and hands-on training so the manufacturer could manage labels independently. The company has since expanded from core inventory operations into additional workflows, grown its user base, and now processes up to 58,000 inventory transactions each month.

The Challenge

For this manufacturer, labeling was not a minor operational detail. Accurate labels were required for inbound inventory, outbound shipments, serialized finished goods, and made-to-order production.

Their prior labeling system created a significant support burden:

  • Every label change, including small adjustments, required a ticket to an offshore support team. Changes that should have taken an hour could take weeks to complete.
  • The internal team had no ability to build or modify labels themselves. They depended on a remote resource who had never been onsite or seen their operations firsthand.
  • The Senior Manufacturing Engineer regularly started early or stayed late to resolve label issues and keep shipments moving.
  • The business needed more than a quick fix. It needed a partner that could solve the labeling issue at its source and help the team operate independently.

The Solution

RF-SMART approached the engagement differently. Rather than sending the manufacturer through another support queue, RF-SMART provided a dedicated onsite engagement focused on the labeling challenge and the team’s long-term capability.

The manufacturer signed on with RF-SMART and went live with core Oracle Cloud inventory operations about four months later. The initial rollout included:

  • Receiving
  • Material transfers by item
  • Real-time inventory visibility

After go-live, RF-SMART built a custom labeling solution around the manufacturer’s requirements and trained the internal team to design and manage labels independently.

The relationship continued to expand through Phase 2, which added:

  • Sequential and manual cycle counts
  • Directed pick slip picking
  • Movement requests
  • Location label printing
  • Custom serial number validation for serialized production requirements

The custom serial number validation enhancement was deployed. The manufacturer then completed its most complex labeling effort to date, migrating 18 labels to RF-SMART’s label-management platform.

The Results

With RF-SMART, the manufacturer replaced a reactive support model with an internal, scalable approach to labeling and inventory operations:

  • Eliminated weeks-long delays for label changes by replacing offshore support dependency with onsite expertise and internal ownership.
  • Trained the internal team to design and manage labels without routine support tickets.
  • Restored normal working hours for the team member who had been managing labeling issues before and after regular business hours.
  • Went live with core inventory operations in four months, with the labeling transition completed in phase 2.
  • Expanded adoption across their warehouse facilities.
  • Processes up to 58,000 inventory transactions per month.
  • Completed the migration of 18 labels to RF-SMART’s label-management platform.
  • Have become an active advocate for their partnership with RF-SMART.

For this manufacturer, the value that RF-SMART brought wasn't just better software. It was a team that came onsite, stayed engaged, and measured success by the customer's ability to operate independently. They look forward to extending RF-SMART deeper into their operations with manufacturing workflow enablement as the next phase on the roadmap.
